Miguel Toribio-Mateas

Nutritional Therapist
MSc BSc (Hons) NMed PgDip MBANT NTCC CNHC Registered

Spanish-born Miguel has had a life-long love of cooking and good food. Living in London from the mid-nineties he soaked up different cultural traditions, always favouring a Mediterranean diet "with an oriental twist". He first became interested in the world of nutrition whilst learning about the therapeutic use of foods in the Ayurvedic tradition during his Yoga teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga. His inquisitive mind led him to study Nutritional Medicine, completing a BSc Honours at Thames Valley (now West London) University. His honours dissertation was on the protective effect of different foods from endothelial dysfunction. He has more recently studied Functional Diagnostic Medicine with Drs Grisanti and Weatherby at The Functional Medicine University and FMTown, and has continued to explore an integrative model of healthcare via his studies with the Institute for Functional Medicine.

"I believe that each and every person is unique. Each of us is made up of an individually coded web of interconnections among the physical, the mind, the spirit and environmental inputs such as psycho-social circumstances, our diet, the air we breathe and the water we drink. The sum of all of these factors contributes to our own dynamic balance which rests upon our genetic predisposition to health and disease.

In my practice I encourage my clients to be mindful of any circumstances that may be present in their lifestyles and that may be impeding their attaining optimal health to listen to their bodies. Negative emotions can have devastating effects at physiological  level, in the same way that physical imbalances permeate through the whole of our being, affecting our mood and self-esteem. My goal is to make you see nutrition as an essential part of your wholesome lifestyle, rather than just as "nice food". Looking at food from that angle will empower you to make better informed, healthier choices, for life. My role is that of a facilitator of change, allowing you to take control of your health in an integrative and personalised way that works for you. This often means working with alongside medical doctors and complementary healthcare practitioners to ensure you get the best care possible."

Miguel lectures across the UK and Europe and is an academic tutor at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition. His research interests include oxidative cellular damage and the improvement of vital cellular energy, which is essential for naturally occurring biotransformation and detoxification processes. He also runs two busy London clinics in London where his specialist areas include hormonal, gastrointestinal and skin health.
