Detox International information

It is important that our juice fasting programme will be right for YOU and so we ask you to complete a booking form on our website which includes medical & health information before your booking can be confirmed. Detox International reserves the right to say no to a booking if we consider that a juice fasting regime would not be suitable for a specific health condition. (This rarely happens!)

However, we would love to discuss with you how we can work with you nutritionally to prepare you for a detox retreat at a later date. For example, if someone has recently had chemotherapy, we would help and advise them on how they could best prepare for their detox a few months ahead of the retreat. This would give them the most benefit from the whole detox process.

If you are taking the contraceptive pill, please be aware that you may need additional barrier contraception for 4 to 6 weeks after the fast. Detox can lessen the effects of contraceptive medication while also increasing fertility!

Who is detox NOT suitable for?

If you are a Type 1 diabetic it is generally recommend that you do not undertake a complete juice fast. However, we have some regular clients who are Type I insulin dependent who benefit hugely from the retreat weeks and we monitor their blood sugar levels and give additional support as needed. Please get in touch if you are interested in a retreat and are an insulin dependent diabetic. We regularly have people with Diabetes Type 2 on our detox retreats and can alter the programme to suit your individual needs.

Anyone with a major chronic illness should consult with your doctor or health practitioner before attending a detox programme. In certain cases, we may ask for a letter from your doctor to say that you are well enough to attend a detox.

Detox retreats are not suitable if you are already pregnant or breast feeding, because toxins released by the body during the detox can cross the placenta or be passed on through the mother’s milk.

However, if you are trying to improve fertility (both men and women) then a detox is one of the best things you can do in preparation, ideally 3-4 months prior to trying to conceive. Please email for more information about preconception health / fertility and how detox can help or have a look at our special Fertility Detox Programme.
